..there are as many reasons for joining a club as there are members. But one benefit is the opportunity that membership offers to meet others with similar interests, and so forming a common bond and perhaps friendships. Because of the geographical spread of FTvMC members it is unrealistic to hold regular meetings, however members who live close to each other will often meet up informally, while the club itself orgnises a number of informal 'get togethers' throughout the year in different locations, which offers as many members as possible the opportunity to come along, hopefully at least once in the year. In addition there is the bi-annual Dron-a-rama weekends.

NEWHAVEN
Report
by
Brian Lay

I Picked up Ian Sinclair very early on the Sunday morning and with the car loaded with the "Association of London Modelers" stand and gear we set off to Newhaven.
The weather at first was a little miserable with a few spots of rain but this soon im,proved and whjen we arrived at Newhaven, about nine o'clock, it was quite nice. As Ian and I were unloading the car we met Eric Moore and Ian Ward who were already setting up the Dr One's Lab stand
The FTVMC stand was on one of the side rooms and the other members in attendance were Jason 'The Fopp' Andrews, Dave 'Three minutes' Trelfer, Gary and Linda Stratmann with Rupert and Jenni bringing up the rear. Sharing the room was 'Collectakit' and USA Models among others. This stand had mostly Star Wars and Star Trek spacecraft including the new Bandi Enterprise which comes prepainted with lights! It looks great but at close to £70.00 I am not so sure.
There were a good selection of other clubs including Hornchurch and the Mid-Surrey branch of the IPMS who were also the event organizers. There did not appear to be as many traders as at previous shows and noticed that 'Mr Models' - who normally attends was not there so not much in the Sci-Fi range.
I bought a couple of items off Jason, which I had arranged to collect but other than that I only got a decal sheet.

The competition was very well supported and the Sci-Fi sections were the busiest!

Eric Moore won in the hardware section with his 'Showdown at Mega City 1'
Rupert Ramone was 'Highly Commended' for his terminator skull.
Dave Trelfer won with his 1:1 scale Alien Egg & Hugger in the figure section.
I received a 'Highly Commended' for my swimming creature from the B;ack Lagoon.
Ian Ward received two 'High Commended' for his General Thade and Superman busts.

All in all it was a good day out but it could have been busier although after talking with one of the organizers they said they were quite happy with the way things had gone. The traders were also happy and you can't complain about that can you?
