DRONE-A-RAMA |
 |
The Drone-A-Rama, or DAR, shows are held bi-annually offering members an opportunity to get together as a whole club, unlike the informal local meets, in a relaxed atmosphere that enourages the involvement of partners and younger family members. DAR is however more than just a model show, although this is obviously the core of the event giving members the chance to display their latest work, with the emphasis beeing on fun. The weekends take in auctions, raffles, displays, dealer tables, quizes, workshops, challenges, visits to appropriate attractions, and social events.

DAR 2003 |
 |
There was no going back. The preparations had been made and it was time to see whether all the hard work had paid off for the FTVMC's 4th Convention, which was promised to be the best yet.
Early attendees on the Friday seemed to be ensuring that once again that DAR would maintain the accolade of being the UK's biggest model show devoted entirely to Sci-Fi,
Horror and Fantasy. Saturday morning confirmed this as more people arrived bringing their show kits with them.
Saturday also saw us play host to a number of special visitors from the Games Workshop family But there is more to a DAR event than this.
The event runs more as a convention and over the 'four' days there were seminars, demonstrations, raffles, auctions and a visit to the Games Workshop factory in Nottingham. Unfortunately our special guest: Martin Bower, couldn't attend but what we lacked in star presence we more than made up for in entertainment.
The evening and daytime activities were well supported; quizzes on Saturday and Sunday evenings, dressed hat competition and the now infamous Death Race 4 went down a storm - with the best people coming out triumphant of course.
But still there was more to it than this
Visitors and attendees didn't have to attend or involve themselves in the organised activities, rather for many the weekend is a chance to swap tips, meet fellow modellers, pick up some
bargains, have a good weekend. For anyone interested in modelling it is the perfect weekend.
